New ZAH Director: Ralf Klessen

Since July 1, Prof. Dr. Ralf Klessen (ZAH/ITA) is director of ZAH. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Joachim Wambsganss, who was director since July 1, 2024.

As deputy director the ZAH board elected Dominika Wylezalek (ZAH/ARI). (2025/07/01)

Ralf Klessen is professor for theoretical astrophysics, working at the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA). His research activities focus on the formation of stars at present days and in the early universe, on the dynamics of the interstellar medium, on astrophysical turbulence, and on the development of numerical methods for computational astrophysics including advanced machine learning.

Dominika Wylezalek is professor for observational astronomy and leads the research group “Galaxy Evolution and AGN (GALENA)” at the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (ARI).
