Ernst Patzer Award 2020 for Alessandro Savino (ZAH/ARI)

The Ernst Patzer Foundation is awarding up to three prizes each year for the best refereed publications by doctoral students and young postdocs at MPIA and ZAH.

In 2020, Dr Alessando Savino, Postdoc at ZAH/ARI, is among the awardees.

He receives this prize for his paper on The age of the Milky Way inner stellar spheroid from RR Lyrae population synthesis (2020, Astronomy & Astrophysics, A&A 641, A96). Alessando Savino has been Postdoc in the Research Group of Priv.-Doz. Dr Andreas Koch.

Furthermore, two other scientist are honored with the Patzer Prize: Neige Frankel (MPIA) for Keeping It Cool: Much Orbit Migration, yet Little Heating, in the Galactic Disk (2020, Astrophysical Journal, 896, 15) and Nico Krieger (MPIA) for The Turbulent Gas Structure in the Centers of NGC253 and the Milky Way (2020, Astrophysical Journal, 899, 158).

The award winners will be honored during a hybrid Patzer Colloquium on November 27th, 2020, at 15:00 via ZOOM and will give a short presentation of their work.

The Scientific Ernst Patzer Foundation was established in 2001 by the widow of the Philosopher Ernst Patzer. The goal of the foundation is to support young scientists in the field of astronomy, in particular at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg and ZAH.
