Joachim Wambsganss is new director of ZAH


Prof. Dr. Joachim Wambsganss

Since July 1, 2024, Prof. Dr. Joachim Wambsganss (ZAH/ARI) is director of ZAH. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Norbert Christlieb, who was director since July 1, 2021 and who is now ZAH deputy director.

In the past, Joachim Wambsganss has already held the position of ZAH director. From Jan. 2005 to June 2015 he was the first director of the ZAH.

Joachim Wambsganss' research interests range from the search for extrasolar planets with the technique of gravitational microlensing, through the study of quasars to the investigation of the dark matter distribution in galaxy cluster via the analysis of giant arcs. He is also interested in various aspects of "eScience", e.g. he is leading the national activities for the virtual observatory, GAVO.
